We have officially ended our 3 months straight of inhaled antibiotics to treat Madeline's Pseudo and that means it is time to return to cf clinic. We head back on Friday, the 6th for a throat culture and check up.
It's been incredible not having to do ANY inhaled antibiotics after her usual nebulizers and vest the past few days. We finished up the inhaled Colistin on Monday that lasted through 3 straight months. The antibotic usually adds anywhere from 15-20 minutes onto a normal treatment time. Just having to do 2 nebulizers feels like such a HUGE break instead of the 3 that we have been doing non stop.
I still remain clueless as to how Pseudo could have found it's way into her lungs at made its home there. She continues to be non-symptomatic (no cough) and full of energy. So many children who culture Pseudo become symptomatic within 6 months of culturing it. Fevers, coughing, and sometimes lack of energy are key signs that the Pseudo is taking over their bodies. We are extremely thankful that Madeline is the exception to this rule as it relates to Pseudo....
But one thing continues to haunt us....If she isn't symptomatic certainly shouldn't she easily be able to get rid of it through a year of various inhaled antibiotics? If the culture is showing only moderate to slight Pseudo shouldn't her body react to these endless hours of drugs?
These are the questions that continue to have no answers. We may never know why. But we will continue to hope for a clear culture and a good check up on Friday. I have begun to understand the meaning of the word hope....
And hopefully, by next week we will have a plan as to where we go from here. We again thank all our family and friends for their unending support....
Updates on Friday after clinic...
