"Play-doh"

We whipped up some good ole' fashioned homemade play-doh this weekend. I wasn't sure how Madeline would react to the "squishy" part of the dough. She usually doesn't go for things that have that kind of texture.

But, I was pleasantly surprised. We had a great Saturday afternoon playing with purple play-doh at her little table. The best part was that we had ALL the ingredients. All i had to buy was the cream of tartar
which holds the play-doh together!

Like the SmartVest backdrop?!

Here are the ingredients I used: (stainless can has flour inside!)

 2 cups of flour
 2 cups of warm water
 1 cup of salt
 2 tbsp. of vegetable oil
1 tbsp of cream of tartar (found in spices section of grocery)
gloves (I would recommended latex gloves since the food dye gets
all over your hands and doesn't wash off!)

Mix all of the ingredients together, and stir over low heat. The dough will begin to thicken until it resembles mashed potatoes. When the dough pulls away from the sides and clumps in the center, remove the pan from heat and allow the dough to cool enough to handle.

After we were done playing I put the play-doh in a sealed ziploc. It has been  3 days since we made it and it is super moist and ready to use!

Happy Play-dohing!

  1. Oh wow thanks!!

As I started reading this post, I was going to ask you for the recipe :)

Will let you know how we get on, i'm guessing I may ruin a few pans in the process but it'll be worth it!
